Pet Ceremonies: For the love we can’t explain
Our animal companions give us unconditional love, loyalty, and joy—and when it’s time to say goodbye, they deserve a farewell filled with grace and gratitude. Carolyn offers gentle, personalised pet funeral ceremonies that honour the bond you shared and the life they lived.
Whether in your garden, by the beach, or in a quiet space of your choosing, each service is crafted with care, reflection, and respect.
What do I do when my Companion passes away?
If your pet passes away in the comfort of your home, you can start with the following to ensure everything is covered:
Start by wrapping your loved one in a blanket and keep them in a cool place until arrangements are made.
You can contact your Vet who will help direct you to a cremation or burial service
You can contact a pet cremation service directly
Either your vet or the bruial/cremation service will come to your home to collect your pet
Cremation
Most people choose cremation for their pets. You usually have two options:
Private cremation – Your pet is cremated and the ashes are returned to you.
General cremation – Your pet is cremated with other animals and ashes are not returned.
The cremation company will usually return ashes in an urn or box, and you are often able to purchase memerabillia such as paw prints or keepsakes.
Burial
In many areas, pets are able to be buried at home as long as:
The property is your own (not a rental without permission)
The burial site is away from water sources
The grave is deep enough (usually at least 1 metre)
The pet is wrapped in a biodegradable blanket, towel, or placed in a cardboard or wooden box
Farewell Ceremony
If you are wanting to celebrate the life of your loved one through ceremony, you have the freedom to make it your own. A pet farewell ceremony could be held in your backyard, next to their favourite resting spot, at the beach you first took them too as a young one or maybe in their local park where they would spend most afternoons with their family.
Your ceremony could be held ontheir birthday or an anniversary. You could include scattering of their ashes, share funny stories, a beautful reading or poem, perhaps have the chikdren light a candle in their memory. You could even plant a tree where they lay.
These ceremonies are beautiful, simple, and very personal.
When to Say It In Ceremony
Soon after your pet has passed away
While you are waiting for ashes to be returned
Months later, when you are ready for a memorial
Maybe even before they pass if they are unwell so they can be involved in choosing their favourite spot for the ceremony.
There is no right time — only when it feels right for you.
Our pets give us unconditional love, loyalty, and companionship. Saying goodbye to them deserves just as much care, respect, and love as any other farewell. A small ceremony can help bring comfort, closure, and a chance to say thank you for the joy they brought into our lives.
